Speaker(s):

Lu Ann Reese

Presentation:

This presentation will focus on the “Five Stages of Building Resiliency Process” will focus on the importance of understanding how to meet the parent/caregiver where they are at in that given moment. Parent/caregivers can become overwhelmed by their situation.   It’s easy to give up and not be able to get back on track. A Family Support Provider can play a key role in helping the family see that “change is possible” so they can develop a plan to try to move forward. The FSP uses parts of their own “resiliency story” to connect with the family and ignite the Spark of Hope. It’s also important for the FSP to partner with the Community Support Specialist to make sure the families needs are addressed so the parent/caregiver and their child or youth can be successful and reach their identified goals.

Objectives:

  • Describe the “Five Stages of Building Resiliency Process” and stress importance of how to meet the parent/caregiver where they are in any given moment.
  • Discuss how the Family Support Provider can play a key role in helping the family see that “change is possible” and developing a plan to move forward by using their own “resiliency story”.
  • List ways in which the Family Support Provider can partner with the Community Support Specialist to make sure parent/caregiver and child can be successful and reach identified goals.
