Herrera, Mirna

Mirna Herrera- MA, MTBC- from Nazareth, Israel, is the recipient of the 2018 Mental Health Champion award for the work she has accomplished as the director for a consumer operated service program at Truman Medical Center- Kansas City, MO. Her work focused on the mission to help consumers with their recovery through peer support, while sharing her own recovery story as a source of hope and motivation for her employees and peers. She is also involved with the RESPECT institute in Kansas City, a program that helps consumers tell their stories in public settings with a goal to decrease the stigma of mental illness in the community. She is currently a group home manager at TMC and strives to employ people living with a mental health diagnosis to empower residents to work through their recovery to achieve their life goals. She holds a B.A. in psychology and a B.A. in musicology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and earned her Master’s degree in music therapy from the University of Missouri- Kansas City.
