Presentation Description: Peer Specialists fill such an important role for their clients and in the agencies in which they work. To remain effective in their work and maintain their own recovery, taking care of themselves is vital. However, self-care is often an assumed knowledge-base and thus, not always covered in a manner that truly helps one understand what it is and how it applies to them. This training will focus specifically on self-care for peer specialists, offer specific self-care practice ideas, and assist peer specialists in identifying practices that will be most helpful for themselves.


  • Discuss the importance of self-care
  • Describe the risk of not practicing self-care
  • Identify aspects of self-care that are unique for peer-specialist
  • Identify helpful self-care practices to implement
